Frequently Asked Questions
We welcome dancers beginning around age 2! Our youngest classes focus on movement, music, coordination, confidence, and learning how to participate in a class environment. There’s no perfect age to start-there’s a great starting point at almost every age.
It depends on your dancer! Ballet builds technique and foundation, jazz is energetic and expressive, hip hop is upbeat and fun, tap develops rhythm and musicality, and acro combines dance with flexibility and tumbling skills. Our team is happy to help you choose the best place to start.
Not at all! We have classes specifically designed for beginning dancers. Whether your child is 3 or 13, it’s never too late to start.
Start with their age, experience, and what excites them! Our staff can help you find a class where your dancer will feel comfortable, appropriately challenged, and excited to come back each week.
Attire varies depending on the style of dance. Proper dancewear and shoes allow our instructors to teach safely and effectively.
You can view the Dance Dimensions attire requirements for each class and shop for the appropriate dancewear and shoes here:
Not for your first class! We have loaner dance shoes available at the studio that your dancer can try, or they are welcome to wear socks for their trial class. Once you decide to enroll, our team will help you make sure you purchase the correct shoes for their class.
Yes! A trial class is a great way for your dancer to experience the class, meet their instructor, and see if it feels like the right fit. Contact our studio and we’ll help you choose the best class to try.
That’s completely normal! Dance can be especially wonderful for shy children. We give dancers time to become comfortable with their teacher, classmates, and new environment. Confidence often comes one class at a time.
Our instructors are experienced with young children and understand that separation can take time. A few tears during the first classes don’t necessarily mean your child dislikes dance. Consistency helps children learn that class is a safe, predictable, and fun place.
Yes! Dance Dimensions offers closed-circuit viewing of our classes, so parents can watch their dancer on screens in the studio lobby.
Want to use class time to get things done? You can also watch your dancer from your cell phone while you run errands or take care of other things nearby.
This allows our dancers to develop independence and stay focused in the classroom while parents can still see what they’re learning and enjoy watching their progress.
For dancers just getting started, we recommend beginning with 1-2 classes per week. This gives your dancer an opportunity to discover the styles they enjoy while building a strong foundation.
As dancers grow, many of our students choose to enroll in multiple styles of dance. Ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, tap, acro, and other disciplines all develop different skills that complement one another.
Growth in dance can be exponential. The strength, technique, musicality, flexibility, coordination, and confidence developed in one style often help a dancer progress more quickly in another. As their love of dance grows, their training can grow with them.
Every dancer develops differently. Consistent attendance is one of the biggest factors. Dance is a progression-strength, flexibility, technique, musicality, coordination, and confidence build over time.
We understand that occasionally dancers need to miss class. If your dancer will be absent, please report the class absence through your Parent Portal.
Dancers may make up a missed class within 30 calendar days by attending another age- and level-appropriate class in a similar dance style at a different available class time.
Consistent attendance is still encouraged because each class builds on what dancers have learned the week before.
Talk to us before giving up on dance altogether! Sometimes the solution is simply trying a different style, level, or class environment. We want to help your child find the right fit.
Not at all! We serve recreational dancers as well as dancers who want more intensive training, performance, and competition opportunities. A child can dance simply because they love it.
Dance is a performing art, and performance is one of the important aspects-and highlights-of what we do at Dance Dimensions. Performing gives dancers the opportunity to take everything they’ve learned in the classroom and experience the excitement, confidence, teamwork, and accomplishment of bringing it to the stage.
Our annual Bravo recital is a special part of the Dance Dimensions experience, and we encourage all of our dancers to participate. It’s an opportunity to celebrate their growth, hard work, and love of dance with their family, friends, teachers, and fellow dancers.
If you have specific concerns about your dancer participating, please bring them to our staff. We want to work with your family to help address any concerns or challenges and make the performance experience as positive as possible for your dancer.
For Season 23, we’ve simplified many of the traditional dance expenses through our all-inclusive tuition structure. Your dancer’s Bravo participation and costume are incorporated into the program, helping families better plan for the season. Bravo recital tickets are purchased separately.
Yes! Bravo recital costumes are included in tuition. Our all-inclusive tuition structure was designed to make dance expenses easier and more predictable for families.
Yes. While our all-inclusive tuition structure includes many of the expenses traditionally charged separately by dance studios, there are a few items families should plan to purchase separately.
Class attire, tights, dance shoes, and Bravo recital tickets are not included in tuition.
We want families to understand their dance expenses upfront, so there are fewer surprises throughout the season.
It depends on the number and type of classes your dancer takes. Our staff can give you the complete cost before you enroll so you can choose what works best for your family.
Season 23-THE STANDARD: Excellence Lives Here-begins August 17, 2026.
Yes, space permitting! You don’t have to wait until the next season to begin dancing. Some classes may fill, though, so earlier enrollment gives you the best selection.
We understand that schedules and circumstances can change. Dance Dimensions requires a minimum of 30 days’ notice for all class drops.
All drops are processed at the end of the month. Because of this, families are responsible for tuition through the applicable drop date based on the required notice period.
Before dropping a class, we also encourage you to talk with our staff. If the issue is scheduling, class placement, or finding the right fit, we may be able to help find another option for your dancer.
Depending on ages and class availability, we can often help families build schedules that make having multiple dancers more convenient.
Yes! We encourage families with dancers taking multiple styles to look for back-to-back options whenever possible. More dancing without adding another trip to your week!
When they’re excited for more! Adding another style can help dancers become more versatile and often strengthens their overall technique.
Not every dancer is required to take ballet, but ballet provides an incredible technical foundation. Dancers interested in more advanced training should strongly consider incorporating ballet into their schedule.
Ballet emphasizes technique, alignment, strength, and control. Jazz is dynamic and performance-driven. Contemporary and lyrical combine technique with emotion and storytelling. Hip hop focuses on rhythm, style, and musicality. Tap turns the dancer’s feet into an instrument. Acro develops flexibility, strength, balance, and tumbling skills.
We offer age- and ability-appropriate opportunities for dancers interested in acro. Placement is based on more than whether a child can already do tricks-we want dancers learning skills safely and progressively.
That’s one of the transformations we love watching most. Children practice doing hard things, performing in front of others, receiving corrections, learning new skills, and seeing their own progress. Confidence is built through those experiences.
Absolutely. Dancers don’t master every skill the first time. They learn to listen, practice, accept corrections, and keep working when something is difficult. Those lessons extend far beyond the dance studio.
Yes! A child doesn’t have to be outgoing to belong at Dance Dimensions. Dance gives children a way to express themselves while gradually becoming more comfortable with their peers and performing.
Dance friendships can become incredibly meaningful. Dancers see the same classmates each week, work toward shared goals, and celebrate accomplishments together. We want Dance Dimensions to be a place where kids feel like they belong.
It’s completely normal for dancers to experience moments of frustration. Dance is a skill that develops over time, and some steps, techniques, or movements can be challenging to master. Sometimes when a child says, “I don’t want to do this anymore,” what they may really be expressing is, “This feels hard right now.”
Those moments can also become meaningful opportunities for growth. With encouragement, patience, and the right support, dancers can experience the pride that comes from working through something difficult and eventually realizing, “I can do this.”
Learning to stay with an age-appropriate challenge can gently build perseverance, discipline, resilience, and confidence-skillsthat reach far beyond the dance studio.
Of course, we want children to enjoy their dance experience and feel supported. If your dancer is struggling or suddenly wants to quit, we encourage you to talk with their instructor or our studio staff before making a decision.
Together, we can listen to your dancer, understand what may be behind the frustration, and help determine the best way to support them.
Look for enthusiasm, consistency, focus, and a desire to improve-not just natural ability. Talk with their instructor about additional classes, advanced training, or performance opportunities.
Recreational dancers can enjoy excellent training and performances without the additional commitment of a company program. THE COLLECTIVE is for dancers ready for a higher level of training, teamwork, performance, and competition commitment.
We consider age, experience, technical ability, and developmental readiness. Proper placement helps dancers progress safely and confidently rather than being pushed ahead before they’re ready.
Not necessarily. Dance levels are based on skill development rather than simply age or the number of years a child has been dancing. Sometimes spending additional time mastering a level is exactly what a dancer needs to thrive at the next one.
The biggest things are surprisingly simple: arrive consistently and on time, encourage practice when appropriate, make sure they have the proper attire, and celebrate effort-not just awards, tricks, or being placed in the front row.
Because we believe dance education should develop more than great dancers.
For more than 20 years, Dance Dimensions has focused on quality dance education in an environment where children can build confidence, discipline, perseverance, friendships, and a genuine love of dance.
With studios in Palm Desert and La Quinta, dancers can grow from their very first class into advanced training, performance, and competition opportunities-all within the Dance Dimensions family.
